Chatbots and Star Wars...

I talked to an online customer service rep at SonyStyle.com today. This made me laugh:

Lynette: Hi, my name is Lynette. How many I help you?
Priscilla: hi, i heard that if i buy something in store
Priscilla: that there is a satisfaction guarantee
Priscilla: does it also apply to online purchases?
Lynette: Hi Priscilla, thank you for your interest in Sony Products.
Priscilla: there is a sony style store near me but they do not have the mp3 player that i want yet (the Network Walkman NW-E505)
Priscilla: if i don't like it, can i return it to the store instead of mailing it back?
At this point, she was taking a while to reply to my questions, which made me think that she might not be an actual person.
Priscilla: are you still there lynette?
Lynette: Yes, I am here.
Since she responded to that question quickly and her punctuation and spelling were flawless, I thought she was a chatbot, so I decided to ask her straightup.
Priscilla: are you a chatbot?
Lynette: Sorry, to keep you waiting. Please give me a moment.
At this point, I felt bad for being so impatient. She apparently is not a chatbot and she kept avoiding the satisfaction guarantee question. Only real people can be trained to avoid the tricky questions. This is the part that made me laugh:
Priscilla: if i buy an mp3 player online, will it come with a satisfaction guarantee?
Lynette: I can assure you that you will be totally satisfied if you are purchasing online at SonyStyle.com.

Ok, maybe I'm the only one who finds this amusing. For some reason I don't think that I can take Lynette's assurances to the bank. Sorry if that bored you.

So I saw Star Wars Episode III yesterday finally. It was surprisingly good! I'm not sure if it actually good or if Episodes I and II were so abhorrent that anything would be comparatively better. I think it's the former though. I'm going to rewatch them in order from I to VI because I have nothing else to do, plus I want to get a better understanding of how they all fit together. By the way, does it bother anyone else when people applaud at the end of a movie? Yesterday, the audience applauded when the Star Wars fanfare started at the beginning of the movie. Nerds. Who are they applauding for? There are no performers in the place. The film reel guys? The movie theater ushers who are about to clean up their trash? Each other? It just doesn't make sense.

Ok, time for ice cream.

Wow, blog posts 5 days in a row! That must be some kind of world record. I have People's History lined up for my next drive back to Iowa... hope I can make it past the first chapter.
