What accent do you sing with?

Isn't it strange that British people sing with an American accent when they sing? Or maybe its that American people sing with a British accent? Or maybe its some accent-less form of speech? I don't know. I just know that when I was little, I was pretty shocked when I found out that Phil Collins was British. I was recently shocked when I found out that Joss Stone was British, although one would think I would be used to that kind of stuff.

Isn't it weird though. Listen to "No Son of Mine" from Genesis. There are parts in there where he is basically talking. I can't detect any sort of accent.

Coldplay on the other hand does sound British. Try singing "In My Place" by Coldplay. You can't help but sing in the same way! If you try to sound American while singing that, it just sounds so nasal, which is supposedly how Americans sound to the British. So I guess you can't sing with an American accent?

I don't know. I can't figure it out. Anyone have any ideas about this?
