I am a soothsayer...

It was almost two years ago that I made a prediction in this very blog. I cut open a bird. As I made my first incision, it squawked "Next Big Thing! Caw!". Then it died. I looked at its entrails and I saw a face. The face of...Jake Gyllenhaal!

My Feb 24, 2004 Blog Post

So I predicted that JayGee would be the Next Big Thing. Boy, if I could have put money on that, I would be a billionaire! How right I was! Let's see what JayGee has been up to the 23 months since I said he would be everywhere, shall we?

He released one blockbuster in 2004 - The Day After Tomorrow. A forgettable film for sure, with terrible dialogue. But neat special effects. A typical "I have arrived" vehicle for young stars.

He released 4 movies in 2005, 2 of which were major productions where he was either the star or the co-star: Brokeback Mountain and Jarhead. I have seen both of these films. I actually liked Jarhead and JayGee was pretty good in it. It was an interesting perspective of the first Gulf War, although some might say that it was boring. I think boredom might have been an intentional effect of the movie. These guys were basically stuck out in the desert for months. They were bored. So being bored watching them, well it's really not that suprising.

Brokeback Mountain was only mediocre. It's not surprising that gay cowboys in the 60's couldn't openly get it on, and were destined for a life of loneliness. There were just a lot of unhappy people in it. Was it a great love story? Not really. Same as other love stories except the lovers are dudes. Both of them. The landscapes were lovely though.

Anyway, back to the original point. JayGee is the next big thing no longer. He is the big thing! I was right.

For the record, I also predicted that Mariah Carey would make a big comeback. Unfortunately, I didn't document it anywhere so I have no proof.

My predication for 2007: This time I will read tea leaves. The whistle of the kettle says "Next big thing! Woot!". And in the tea leaves, I see the face of...M. Jack! If only wishing could make it so...

Eh...I'm still not into Jake Gyllenhaal (and that's what really counts - if it doesn't have my stamp of approval it's pretty much worthless).

As far as Wacko Jacko - I see he's walking around Bahrain dressed like a woman. I'd say chances of his comeback are pretty slim.
