The Case of the Missing Socks

Exhibit A:

I'm not sure what happened, but in the last month my argyle socks have lost their partners. Who took them, you ask? The laundry machine, perhaps. Or the elusive argyle sock thief. It is a mystery.

Is it acceptable to wear two of these at the same time? I may be reduced to such measures...
